Problem
A conveyor at a coal plant in China was experiencing material return problems, the system conveyed hundreds of tonnes of coal slag on a 48 inch wide (1200 mm) conveyor belt at 300 fpm (1.524 m/s) from the mine to inside the surface facility, the outdoor portion of the belt, although covered, was exposed to extreme weather, the material was sticking to the return side of the belt, collecting on the around the mainframe and made the rollers sticky, requiring downtime for maintenance and increasing operating costs.
Solution
Bai-ott showed managers the latest innovation in belt cleaning technology, the ”ZJCLEAN-PU”. The technician simply installs and fixes the primary cleaner on the conveyor frame according to the instructions, and fits the cleaner's polyurethane scraper tightly to the belt to maintain pressure but still effectively remove adherent material. Suitable for vulcanised splices with belt speeds up to 1600fpm (8m/s) and mechanical joints up to 800fpm (4m/s), the cleaner slides securely over the joints with a light touch, whilst effectively removing material and reducing residue.
Results
After installing the ZJCLEAN-PU belt cleaner on the conveyor system and getting immediate excellent results, the operator immediately installed the PU cleaner on three other conveyors and ordered eight replaceable polyurethane scrapers. One company executive said, ‘We are very pleased, this is the best belt cleaner we have ever used, with a particularly noticeable reduction in material backhauling problems, and we hope to order our secondary cleaners from you as well.’ Operators say that the RIT belt cleaner reduces the labour required for cleaning and improves system efficiency, and they anticipate that it will last longer than the previous cleaner, saving a lot of maintenance costs and downtime.
