How to choose the rubber compound for steel cord conveyor belt joints?

In industrial production, steel cord conveyor belts play a critical role in material transportation. The quality of belt joints directly impacts the stable and efficient operation of conveyors. Improper rubber selection can easily lead to cracking and debonding.

Conveyor belt joint compounds include unvulcanized tie rubber, unvulcanized cover rubber, and hot-vulcanized cement.

Unvulcanized tie rubber

Unvulcanized tie rubber is primarily used to fill gaps between the steel cords, ensuring a stable joint and evenly distributing stress, preventing stress concentration and damage. When selecting unvulcanized core rubber, consider its flexibility. The closer the core rubber's flexibility is to that of the original rubber layer, the better. Unvulcanized tie rubber, made from highly elastic natural rubber with a hardness of 60 ± 5 Shore A, is compatible with most industrial steel cord conveyor belts. Good filling properties are also important. The core rubber is in a paste-like form with good fluidity. Vulcanization allows it to fully penetrate the gaps between the wire ropes, creating a tight bond between the steel wires and the rubber layer, enhancing joint strength.

Cover Rubber

Cover rubber is located on the surface of the joint and comes into direct contact with materials and equipment. When selecting, focus on wear resistance and material compatibility.

Select a top rubber with high wear resistance. Carbon black reinforcement can enhance wear resistance.

Hot-Vulcanized Adhesive

Hot-Vulcanized Adhesive plays a key bonding role during the joint vulcanization process, ensuring a tight connection between the core and top rubbers and the belt body. Strong Bonding: Its specially formulated chemical composition reacts with the conveyor belt material at high temperatures, penetrating deep into the gaps between the fabric and wire ropes to form a strong vulcanized joint with a strength that can reach 95% of the original conveyor belt.

Wide Temperature Resistance: Suitable for temperatures ranging from -40°C to 145°C, it remains suitable for use in a wide range of temperatures, neither softening at high temperatures nor cracking at low temperatures. Maintaining excellent bonding results consistently. Excellent material compatibility: Perfectly compatible with conveyor belts of all materials, it's widely used in a wide range of industries, including coal, ports, power, and road and rail.

When selecting joint materials, comprehensively considering the properties of the core rubber, surface rubber, and adhesive will help you create a strong and durable joint.
